I was thinking today about how i should start posting stories about what happens here on our block, just to give non city folk a feel for what its like living in the inner city.

I started thinking of the past couple weeks...

laraza gang members flashing gang signs and chasing someone down the sidewalk in front of my house,

my neighbor with jumanji weeds in the back yard, gutters falling off, broken windows in the house, and a very nice car,

how a friend of ours called the police when she heard someone screaming "i can't breathe!" amidst breaking glass and yelling across the street,

how our mexican immigrant friends were stopped by the police and had nothing to say, they had no insurance, no drivers license, and no papers (the police simply said, go home and come back in a month with a driver's license),

how another mexican immigrant friend had no work (and no papers) so he drove 2 hours a day to do hard labor on a farm outside the city,

how we drove by a house that was on fire on the way to church...
