warehouse shootings

[09:02]ferndalekimballs: Were you anywhere near the shootings at the warehouse yesterday? I heard it was southwest side. Are you southeast?
[09:03] chadhols: yeah it isnt really close to our
house
[09:03] ferndalekimballs: that is what i thought
[09:03] chadhols: i mean, it is somewhat close
[09:03] chadhols: maybe a 10 min drive
[09:04] chadhols: but there are plenty of shootings that happen within a 5 min
drive radius so it doesnt seem to be one that is near us
[09:04] chadhols: but some of the people in our homegroup live over there
[09:04] ferndalekimballs: right. ha ha in a sad sort of way
[09:04] chadhols: yeah
[09:04] chadhols: very sad
[09:04] chadhols: there's a whole culture of violence, it is really messed up
[09:05] chadhols: even some of the christian brothers still are taken in by it
[09:05] chadhols: and i have to remind them that violence is not God's way
[09:05] ferndalekimballs: really? in what way?
[09:05] chadhols: well, sort of glamorizing violence
[09:05] ferndalekimballs: ah
[09:05] chadhols: telling stories
[09:05] chadhols: or just joking about it constantly
[09:05] chadhols: or being obsessed with knowing gang politics
[09:05] ferndalekimballs: hmmm
[09:05] chadhols: Satan is at some of their heels
[09:06] ferndalekimballs: it's crazy to see how that perpetuates the culture, even if they don't act out in violence themselves. Their children or friends are influenced by it, and they might be the type of people that act on it instead of just talking it up
[09:07] chadhols: yeah totally
[09:07] chadhols: we were driving the other day and saw this bill board for the
movie bad boys
[09:07] chadhols: will smith standing behind some sort of huge explosion
[09:08] chadhols: holding two pistols out with both arms
[09:08] chadhols: looking all cool
[09:08] chadhols: and holly and I thought,
[09:08] chadhols: what the heck is this? (it was right near where the shooting
took place)
[09:08] chadhols: its amazing that they would put a billboard like that that glamorizes violence right in the middle of an area where everyone is desperately trying to stop violence
[09:09] chadhols: amazingly, frustratingly ridiculous
[09:09] ferndalekimballs: crazy
[09:10] ferndalekimballs: being in the suburbs it is easy to think that media violence doesn't make that big of a difference, because there isn't alot of violent
crime - but in areas where there is violent crime, it suddenly makes the connection very very clear
[09:10] chadhols: yeah
[09:11] chadhols: One of the guys in my home group will actually have intense
desire to just go out and get crazy; on the streets as he puts it, if he watches a movie like bad boys
[09:11] chadhols: sorta like an addiction
[09:11] chadhols: look for trouble
[09:11] chadhols: start something
[09:11] chadhols: Jesus, have mercy
