people that were on my list to invite to church sunday:

-the security guard who lives up stairs and struggles with alcoholism. he has lived in his apartment alone for his entire life.
-the woman who lives under him and has been on psychotropic medications since her brother-in-law killed her husband by running over him with a car one night when they were high and drunk.
-the man who constantly sits on the steps outside the corner store

no one from the above list agreed to come. however, as i was getting ready sunday morning, i heard someone shouting my name from the back porch. i opened the door, and there stood a 19 year old that i had given a ride to church back in april. he had taken the bus to my house and was hungry for God. we spent the whole day with him and shared with him the joy of giving your whole life up to God, and having his Spirit live in you. he was not ready to make the jump but is counting the cost. we'll see what a week with the Holy Spirit lovingly pushing on him will do.

while at church one of the men who used to come to my bible study came up to me and confessed that he had been on crack cocaine for many months, and had lied to me about it. i and a few others had sensed that there was hidden sin in his life, and although we had confronted him numerous times he did not admit it. as he wept on the shoulder of a friend of mine, i marvelled at the Grace of God to rescue us. there before me stood a broken man who God had relentlessly pursued out of determined love, and this love broke him down. the love of God is difficult to resist. pray for him, he starts his rehab program tomorrow.

God is good.
