the chicago police department has a website where you can map the number of crimes committed near your address within any date range. whenever i look, our old address in chicago's north loop has a much higher number of crimes than our current address, which is in a supposedly semi-dangerous area on the south side. now, you could argue that it is actually still more dangerous here, but since it is a tight knit ethnic community they don't report crimes...
