Here is a good passage for us to consider as we approach the primaries. (You ARE going to vote, aren't you?) Jeremiah 5: notice that the judgement is coming upon them for what they DID NOT do, not for what they did:

26' For wicked men are found among My people...
28'They are fat, they are sleek...
They do not plead the cause,
The cause of the orphan, that they may prosper;
And they do not defend the rights of the poor.
29' Shall I not punish these people?' declares the LORD,
'On a nation such as this
Shall I not avenge Myself?'

Consider if the candidate you are intending to vote for will lead us into judgements like these, or away from them.

thats why I don't vote based only on what they say, but based on their voting record. Even with that, they can sell out later, but that is as close as we can get.

here is what I believe: that scripture wasn't referring to any people that are currently on the earth, so in my mind it is more a revelation of the gravity of treatment of the poor in God's eyes. Whether or not God has avenged nations in the past in this way is impossible to determine by looking at history because how could we tell when it was judgement and when it was not?
