i was just driving by Hart's Coin Laundry (a couple blocks from our building) and i noticed that although it is still open for business, they recently bricked up the windows. it was a sleepy neighborhood laundrymat tucked away among the houses of brighton park, until their corner became a hangout for the two-six gang. there have been some shootings over there... they must have gotten sick of replacing the windows.

last night holly and i were offered free babysitting from a friend. so we dropped off abi, and had a little date at a coffee house in rosco village, a trendy north side chicago neighborhood. as we talked, we remarked at how different it is where we live on the south side: no quaint little shops, art galleries, and coffee houses. no college students. few young professionals. but we also remarked at how clear it is that we are right where God wants us. it is a joy to serve Him, to live in His presence, and watch Him transform lives. i wouldn't trade this life for anything.
